The Apple Publications Style Guide does not list 'remove' in relation to software. Applications are 'installed' and 'uninstalled'.

As I think Peter Neilson pointed out, this largely means removing the directory in the Applications folder that contains the unix executable file and resources (the folder that has the .app suffix). It may (or may not) also remove any Library/Application Support folders.

Typically, BOMs, Keychain items and other log and cache files are left in place. Where present, .helper files in LaunchDaemons and other LaunchAgents are often left untouched and may have to be removed manually to return the system to normal behaviour (especially true of AntiVirus and other utility software).
