Well, I wouldn't call the results alarming, just slightly disappointing.

According to Wolfram Alpha the "all items" inflation from 2000-2010
totaled 29.85%. That works out to an annual rate of about 2.6%. The
median wage for tech writers grew 2% per year (2001-2009). So the median
tech writer lost about $33 per year (0.6% of ~$55,000) in purchasing
power.
