Keith Mahoney said, "I'd be interested to know the Rate in the San Francisco
Bay Area, San Jose area in particular.

Keith:
There is no single rate in any particular geographic area. In the Atlanta
area, some companies are looking to minimize costs and are looking for
newbies with a year or two of experience that they can get for $20-$25/hour.
At the same time, other companies are looking for experienced writers with
specific types of experience, and may be negotiating for rates of $40 to
$60. I personally have two rates, one for suburban close-to-home jobs with
free parking and a minimal commute, and a higher rate for mid-city jobs with
a longer (and higher cost) commute and high daily or weekly parking fees. My
last mid-town interview cost me $10 for a little over an hour in the lot.

The best way to check the going rates in your area is to register on a
selection of job boards, and set up job alerts for the type of jobs you're
seeking. There are a couple of boards like Indeed.com that aggregate job
listings from other boards, government, university, and corporate web sites.
It'll send you a daily list of up to 20 new job postings related to your
defined job interest. You can review some of the appropriate listings and
see what kind of rates are being posted for different levels of experience
(and what kinds of jobs are available) in your area, and who's recruiting
for them.
