If by "need-to-know," you mean, "This level of detail is irrelevant to
the boss's work," the boss should politely excuse herself if the meeting
isn't productive or interesting for her.
If by "need-to-know," you mean, "We don't want the boss to know about
this," then I wouldn't want to work at that company.
