FWIW, one little piece of freeware that I've found invaluable is
TimeStamp ( It won't automatically or even
semi-automatically divide your time for previous work. However, you
can go into each task and allocate start time, end time, work hours,
slack hours, etc. and it isn't phased with dates in the past.

That said, it's real strength is in being able to record your time
spent working on each project when you're trying to juggle several at
once. It also has the ability to record 'slack time', which can be
useful if you get pulled away from your job regularly.

You can also export to tab-delimited or XML files, which you can then
import into a spreadsheet or database. It can append one file to
another, which should let you keep a 'master running total' - although
I've never used that feature.
