It's hard to go wrong with socket, there.

"Outlet" is usually reserved for the thing _providing_ power 
(or water or whatever). 

So, unless your equipment is a generator, it's probably 
sucking electrical power (has an inlet socket, or simply  
an AC power connector), and not blowing it.   ahem 

The outlet (also a socket) would be the little rectangular 
thingie on the wall, to which the other end of the power cord 
connects. 

Both ends of the power cord are usually plugs, to mate with 
their respective sockets. 

Maleness and femaleness of connectors is usually a function 
of the sorts of contacts inside a plug or a socket, and 
can often be the opposite of the outward appearance of 
the plug or socket. 

It's hard to go wrong with connector, but...
