With the main power out at HQ, I drafted the following for our Director of IT. Any corrections or relevant additions would be welcome:

Hi [name],

I think Iâve found the solution to your recent power outage. Thereâs a revolutionary technology that apparently bypasses the standard power grid to provide steady illumination. This technology uses no batteries, which makes it ideal from the standpoint of environmental impact (i.e., no need for disposal of toxic battery materials).

The basis for the technology is a braided fiber made of biodegradable materials, embedded in a cylindrical unit of non-toxic, solid fuel (C25H52)*. The fuel immediately surrounding the combustion area is liquefied by the heat, and the fiber, itself impregnated with a small amount of the fuel, draws the liquefied fuel by capillary action into the combustion area.

The combustion produces monochromatic radiation of frequency 540Ã1012 hertz, with a radiant intensity of approximately 1â683 watt per steradian.

Note that while the fiber typically extends the full length of the cylindrical unit, it is not advisable to activate more than one combustion area, as this tends to fully consume the fuel before daylight.

Thanks,

Dan
