For my work machine, I made the exact same transition as Richard last
year, because I had no choice.

For my home machine, I happily paid extra to get Win XP. Office 2003 was
a given.

The best Win 7 advice I can give is to get Classic Shell, at
http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/

It has slightly eased my Win 7 pain, but only slightly.
