ChrisD sez "don't blame scrum," but that is a good point, the
overhead is a killer!
> I am constantly updating Rally. We not only have our scrum team meetings, we have Scrum of Scrums every day. Sprint reviews, retros, and planning take an entire day.

I argue this to not be true. How YOUR TEAM handles them might be
inefficient and a complete waste of time, but these things are
necessary, regardless of what you call them or what model they feed
into. It's a step out of the weeds to assess where you are and where
you need to be, and to change direction if/when needed. If no value is
coming out of them, you need to reassess the model against what you're
doing and correct the discrepancies. It's a very simple solution, but
many find it an awkward thing to handle, which is why not everyone is
cut out to be a leader/scrum master. A true leader keeps their finger
on the pulse of these things and confronts the ugly for the benefit of
the team and its goals.
