The only thing that I would suggest is to double check that you're using a
paragraph style to format the captions, and that some nefarious character
style didn't slip through. For instance, if you normally format captions
with a style called "Figure captions", that your style list (select Show
all) should NOT have a "Figure captions Char" style below it.
Most of the time strange formatting happens when just the paragraph mark at
the end of the target paragraph is formatted differently.
