Except "most people" don't know about organization and recording information that makes backups and reinstalls easier, later. They have crap strewn all about the place, gazillions of zip files from things downloaded and installed but not cleaned up later, and ... well, you get the picture. When I help people out, more often than not they can't even find their original installation discs and they have no idea how to get their e-mail if they had to do it manually, whether through a client or through the web.
