Have you checked out the improvements to Preview? You can take screen shots or a window, selection, or screen; adjust size and color; rotate; flip; and save in many different formats.

I don't know what the DPI feature you're referring to is, but you can specify an output size in various increments or pixels per inch in Preview. You can set one side and the other will scale proportionally, and you can ask it to resample the image.

It's gotten pretty handy and has improved a lot over the years.
