If your office uses scanners that scan directly to image-only .pdf
files, you might be interested in a free Linux server that can watch a
particular folder for new, image-only .pdf files, automatically
perform OCR and then deposit them in an output folder. That way, your
users will have fully searchable Acrobat files from their scans for
only the price of a relatively cheap PC on the network.

The distribution comes on a CD-bootable image, so you can try it out
without dedicating any hardware--then install it on a machine if you
find it useful.
