Text-to-Voice software?

Is anyone using (or has used) text-to-voice conversion software? The default voice-to-text conversions in Captivate are not good enough to use, and the alternative of hiring speakers and a sound studio is overkill. I need something in the middle--good enough to sound professional, without being over-priced.

Suggestions, recommendations, comments, and ideas will be greatly appreciated.
