Well, yes and no as the options that are available and what you have to
select and what you have to click in what order are one way for the three
programmatic options and a completely different way for the "manual" option.
So far, several replies have agreed with "manual" with some clarifying text
that has helped.
Thanks all - these lists are the best.

But really, you're always changing the filename programmatically because
you're not clicking on the file name to enter edit mode and typing in the
new name. The first three options allow the program to decide the filename,
the fourth assigns a filename the user specifies (or assigns). I'll wager
you'll get yourself into a lot less trouble if you look at it from this
point of view.

All,
Describing a user interface that allows a user to edit the names of files
before loading the files for analysis. The interface has four options for
doing this. Three of these options result in the application/program itself
deciding what to edit the filenames to. The fourth option basically says
point to a text file that the user has loaded and check in Col 1 to see what
the file name currently is and then check in col 2 to see what filename that
the user has specified for the file and change the name to this.
So, when describing the interface, I state that you can use this tool to
programmatically change/edit your filenames or you can ??
I am looking for an antonym/opposite meaning of programmatically - something
that says you basically are telling the software what it has to change the
filenames to - the software doesn't get to decide. Would manually changing
the filename be an accurate statement or? I have tried finding an antonym
for programmatically, but so far, nothing really sits just right.
