I'm working on a school project to determine people's preferences when
they're reading text online, in regards to how large the text should
be, as well as how long the lines should be. For anyone willing to
participate, here's the information relevant, and thanks!
Introduction
This survey is essentially designed to see what preference people have
for text size and line length when reading something on line. This
survey is not meant to be in any way invasive, and is completely
voluntary. If at any point you feel uncomfortable with any aspect of
the questions, you have every right to refuse to answer a question or
to quit the survey; you do not have to explain yourself, although it
would be appreciated.
Consent:
Purpose: I am attempting to identify if people prefer larger fonts or
longer lines, or smaller fonts and shorter lines, or some combination,
when reading an item online.
Choose a font size that you feel is suitable, then resize your browser
window until you feel the line length is appropriate. Hit the refresh
button or F5 so that the page can re-identify how large you prefer the
lines. Copy and paste the questions into an email, answer the ones
that were not automatically filled out, and send the email to
gordon -dot- willis -at- mnsu -dot- edu, or send it as a reply to this email. Feel
free to add any additional thoughts or information along in the email.
Confidentiality: The interview will only be shared with a small group
of people, and your name will not be released among them. However, if
they guess, they will always have a 1 in 7 billion chance of guessing
that it's you, so there's that.
Voluntary Nature of the Study: Your decision to partake or to refuse
this interview, in whole or part, will not affect any other aspect of
your life, either professional, personal, or academic. Unless of
course you choose to dwell on the topic for any unusual length of
time, then it may cause some mild interference.
