As an alternative, it's always effective to add value as you do your job. You become a contributing member of the team, and do more than produce pages. Software products, and even hardware products, are ultimately bundles of information. Making and supporting a product is an exercise in information management. Tech writers are information professionals. The pages we produce are a subset of the information product. Good tech writers always have and always will add value over and above the pages they produce.

I've never had any luck with this, because all the statistics in the world won't
change the minds of people whose minds are already made up. In my experience,
the most effective way of making the point is usually to go and do the work for
somebody else.
