My (totally spurious) theory is that engineering, like many sciences,
owes much to great German scientists, and thus, all (or most) nouns get
capitalized.

I work in a similar environment where All Things Important receive
Capital Letters. Pooh, indeed. (Oh, you meant the bear. Pardon my
French!)
