I used to get backaches from long writing/typing sessions, but since a
couple of months of weekly Alexander Technique lessons 20+ years ago
I've been able to go as long as it takes without ill effects. It
doesn't work for everybody--maybe two-thirds of the people I've
recommended it to had similar results, the rest got no benefit. You
can tell after one session if it's going to work for you.

I also make sure my thighs are touching the desk and parallel to the
floor and my feet are flat on the ground. Which, when some sadist
gives me a 29" writing desk instead of a 26.5" typing return, means I
bring my own chair and footrest, plus usually tools to remove the
moronic keyboard drawer.

And I bring my own fully split keyboard and trackball to avoid a
recurrence of the shoulder injury I got from using a standard keyboard
and mouse.
