They're thinking that tech writers, y'know, draw 8 hours pay for
arriving at 10:30, yakking until noon, taking 2 hour lunch breaks, then
sending a few emails before taking off for a personal appointment by 4:00.
Anyway, that's what they seem to be willing to pay to get.
FWIW, I used to think that an offer like that was an opportunity to
prove my value and then ask for a raise. I've now fallen down those
stairs enough times to know now that employers who successfully gouge
tech writers at the outset will invariably acquire the taste for blood
and go to any length to ensure that they continue making the investors
happy by keeping our pay rate chained in the dungeon torture chamber.
