Peter,

This topic came up just a coupla months ago and IIRC the consensus was
that spend, used this way, is acceptable. I think this use of it came
out of accounting/finance.

I have no idea whether or not you were asleep.

I'm probably going to spend too much effort worrying about this one.

An article published by TechRepublic through its e-mail subscription
uses the phrace, "reduce your annual spend" rather than "reduce your
annual expense" or "reduce your annual expenditure."

Since when? Was I asleep?

Or am I efforting too much spend?
