OK, let's start with #1. What kind of arrow won't it let you draw
between two boxes? Perhaps I could e-mail you a Visio file that has the
kind of arrow you want. Unfortunately, I can post the file to the
list...

I usually use the UML Component (US units) stencil to diagram data flows
among software application components. I've also seen the Data Flow
Diagram Shapes (US units) stencil used for this task.
