Wiktionary actually defines them slightly differently, so it may
depend on how you (or the SMEs) are using it.

electric current

1. (physics) the movement of electrons
2. the flow of electricity through a conductor


electrical current

1. (sciences) the flow of electricity along a conductor.
2. (sciences) the rate of flow of such a current.

I don't know if that helps anymore, but it might be good to reserve
"electrical current" for its second definition (the rate of flow) and
use "electric current" for everything else.
