And so what do I do, in writing that message? Well, at least I did delete
the digest quote when I hit "reply" (which is how I usually start a message
or response to the list) -- but I fell prey to Gmail's invisible subject
line once again, so the subject line is worthless.

I wish Gmail would just display it instead of hiding it and making the user
remember to open a link to edit the subject! (Though I can understand why
they did it... to protect the subject line from changes or typos, so all
related messages are threaded together.)

-- But at least give me the choice to hide or display it. Many of my Gmail
activity is in response to discussion list digests, so more often than not I
do benefit from seeing the actual subject. I am the "out of sight, out of
mind" sort, to a shameful degree.
