TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Again a lot depends on how the requirements are specified. The basic info
on what the company does, how long they've being doing it, who the key
players are, and why they're uniquely qualified to do what is being
requested (that could included the amount of experience, a proprietary
methodology, a particularly relevant management approach, well recognized
master of products or standards, or any number of other things). As for
specifics of skills sets, if the requirements allow (you didn't say if it
was a government or private sector contract), you may want to include the
corporate overview, the bios/resumes of the key performers on the contract
(bios on everyone seems excessive in this case), and a table that lists all
the required skill sets, with a row that identifies each content specialist,
and an indicator for each skill set/specialty area that person has.
For government RFP responses, I will also use the corporate overview section
to provide additional information on company experience in providing the
services/products required in the RFP. This is particularly helpful if your
past performance requirements are page-limited or time-limited (and they
often are.).
Ultimately the organization making the request wants to know that you're a
legitimate organization, with experience in providing the same kind of work
to other organizations, and a sufficient number of qualified personnel who
can do the job being requested within the specified timeframe.
Hope this helps... it's the reason why proposal writing is definitely within
the technical communication universe!

Subject: Re: Company profile question
The purpose of the Profile is to snag a LARGE contract. It will be
included as part of the bid for services.
They need to provide a company profile with the bid... but they also
want to include a list of services that they provide (which is long and
relevant, should be provided somehow), and an overview of their key
personnel, some of whom are an example of who will do the job, depending
on the content (they have a lot of content specialists, each one in a
different field, so they can't provide a resume for each one, but the
company doing the bid wants to know WHO will do it, so they need a page
that shows an overview of the top level WHO and samples of the content
who) (if that makes sense).
Right now I have:
Documents: CV/Resumes and copies of certificates (part of RFP)
Three Recommendation letters
Company Profile (currently two pages lots of white space on each page)
Services: Will be a table including defined content services (such as
DTP, writing, editing, etc), and defined specializations (such as
pharmaceutical, legal, administrative, construction, business-sensitive
content)
Management and Key Personnel Overview: Brief bio-blurb of both owners of
company; blurb on two key project managers, blurg on sample content
specialists (who submitted their CVs)
Thanks in advance
Deborah
