Re: "Select" in lieu of other verbs

No they don't. :-)  If they see a spacebar, do they need to be told to
press? I don't think they are going to try to click it. They simply
want to do use the software to do their job. Their job isn't the
software.

If she knew what her audience needed, she wouldn't be having this problem.

Besides...I don't think "select" is audience-specific. For what kind
of audience would this not apply?
