In the past 25-or-so years as a techwriter (and related thingy),
I could count on the fingers of one hand (and have some fingers left
over) the number of times that I've worked overtime and gotten paid for
it. Instead, the usual arrangment has been time-in-lieu, ranging from
full days off, here and there, to a no-questions-asked policy when I
need time in the middle of a day for medical, dental, and other chores.
After a relationship has lasted years, we trust each other to keep the
columns balanced. In other words, loosely interpreted flex-time.

We do track hours against projects, for purposes of resource allocation
and planning, but I haven't filled out an overtime requisition this
century.
