I actually like that the first thing that comes up when you google my
name is now my LinkedIn profile and not any of the silly things that I
do in my time off, or the four or other five people around the country
that aren't actually me. Some of whom have done equally silly things,
like die. (Yes it's odd to find an obituary when you google

The only bad experience I've had so far is just the awkwardness of
trying to figure out how to politely decline an invitation to connect
with someone that I do not respect as a professional. When I first
joined the site, one of my friends commented that he never connects to
anyone that he would not feel comfortable giving a good
recommendation. And I've used that as my criteria when I decide
whether or not to link to someone on the site. If I wouldn't
recommend their work, I won't link to them. Often times if they're
coworkers, we're already linked via someone else, so I'm not worried
about losing out on networking opportunites.
