This makes no sense to me. You've already decided that Word is inadequate,
but you want someone else to tell you why it's inadequate?
I've been using Word since version 1.0 and I know of no reason why it cannot
be used to produce software manuals, or any other sort of manuals.
I have produced manuals, brochures, booklets and much else with Word -- all
of a very high quality. I know how to make Word do things that most people
don't think it can do.
If I needed to produce a large and complex set of manuals, Word would not be
my first choice. I would prefer to use FrameMaker. But if pressed, I could
make Word do what I need it to do.
What is it that you need to do that you believe Word cannot do? And have you
tried it? Or do you just slavishly follow fashionable opinion?
