Thanks all - it's the undo capitalization option or CTRL-Z trick that

Not that this is exactly what you want, but if you press CTRL+Z
immediately after Word initial caps the word, it will "remember" and
not do it any more. (IIRC, it only takes once, but I vaguely remember
occurrences when it took more.)
(Word now remembers how my name is spelled because I have a tendency
to type Cahr sometimes ;-) Yay!)
