Not a great choice, for the following reasons.

1. "Check" is ambiguous. It has several possible meanings.

2. "Check box" is an Americanism. "Select" means the same thing in
American, British and Australian English.

3. Focusing on the control rather than the meaning of the action ("select
the xyz option") inhibits understanding.
