Decimate it was, not denigrate. Reduced by one tenth. If you accept my
most general rule of thumb (a tenth of everything falls through the
cracks), then what was said wasn't really very harsh. I don't think it
really amounted to denigration, but invite the OP to try again if
denigration was the intention.

The angels/pinheads thing is a splendid metaphor for many wonderous
things. Polysemy comes to mind, and aye, the debates about the meaning
of polysemous words can be breathtakingly dull and unimaginative.

Master's programs: some don't even have a thesis requirement.
