There are three problems with your statement:

1. Airing opposing viewpoints on an issue may actually hurt the sales of a sponsor if one viewpoint brings out information about the sponsor that it does not want to become public.

2. The American public expects the media to be a watchdog over the government. If there is only one viewpoint discussed non-stop and that viewpoint supports the policies of the government, then the media is nothing less than an outlet for propaganda. This is what we have seen over the last 7 years.

3. The fairness doctrine had gone through the court system and survived a constitutional challenge and was stated to be a protection for citizens by providing them with alternate information.

I'm not sure why you think there has been no suppression of the left when there was not one single statement against the war before we invaded Iraq and anybody who opposed the war was called unpatriotic. And now, years later, we are finding out that the information given to us was lies. The media watchdogs let us down entirely. Freedom of speech does not cover using propaganda to further the ends of corporations of war such as Halliburton.

Radio programs are available on radio stations (which are money-making
businesses) because they have commercial sponsors who are willing to pay
money to radio stations to air their advertisements. There has been no
"suppression" of the left in this country unless the freedom of companies
and individuals to purchase the advertising they wish to purchase is
considered to be some sort of transgression of someone else's rights.

The left may want the government to violate the First Amendment, but most
Americans want to continue to enjoy the freedom of speech that even the left
professes to value.
