Alfresco is a very powerful and intuitive enterprise CMS, with many similarities to Documentum. We have been working with it for a year now and have been very pleased.
We have also added some XML/DITA component management features to Alfresco as part of our DocZone Lite suite (but this, of course, is not free - but it's quite affordable!)
