These are just general comments about the video for documentation stuff. I
do not have any experience in doing that or managing it. What I'd say, in
addition to what John said, is that perhaps the powers that be have a Very
Good Reason for the addition of video to the documentation chain. On the
other hand, just to be brutally honest, perhaps they have absolutely zero
reason for it.

>From the story I get from Al, the process ('tooling') of the all-important
documentation chain of that company has seen marked improvement due to Al's
management. Now the management wants to add video to this chain. Easy?
Probably not. Expensive? Maybe. Necessary? Don't know. Why would it be? Why
do you ask?

Thanks John....as for the resume pencil....I'm already on it.

IMHO, video-taping engineers doing something might help if and only if you
are there as they are doing it and ask a gazillion questions about why
they're doing it that way, when they know it's correct, how someone who's
never done it might know if it's not correct, what to watch out for, etc.
etc. Look on it as a form of advanced note taking.

Of course, retrieving information from such a video might have its own set
of challenges.

Keeping in mind the corporate water temperature is a good thing. You may
want to reassure the powers that be that doing a good job of capturing and
publishing high quality information will reduce errors internally as well
as among the customer base which will only reflect positively on the
company. Pointing to a non-existent expense in the company bottom line,
though, is nigh impossible.

Might want to also sharpen up that resume pencil, Al.

Al moans aloud:

> project load has grown and the deadlines are shrinking. (Sound familiar?)
