At the risk of sounding grumbly, it perplexes me that this
is such an issue for professionals. You look around to
see what the SOP is where you work. If what you see is
acceptable to you, toe the line. If it's not, ask about the
possibility of doing something different. If you don't get
an answer that works for you, time to think about finding
another place whose SOP and/or willingness to try new
things is more to your liking. Expecting companies that
have processes in place that they think work for them to
change to suit you is unrealistic.
