Did the $39.95 software advertisement have an expiration date? They kind of
have to honor the written price that you were given, otherwise, it is an
enticement, like a "bait and switch," that is sort of not legal.

After reading responses to this post, I see that there is a new version of
Snag-It available that costs more. This should not be an issue because you
have the software, you just need the key to continue using it. I don't see
why their new version should interfere with your ability to get a key for
the old one.

See if you can get a printout of the advertised price that you have, either
print a purchase form or a screen capture. (It's an irony if you can't do
that because your Snag-It license expired.) You can email the printed price
(or let them know that you have a copy) to their ordering support email
address (or their web form) and tell them that you expect them to honor the
price. They should sell the key to you for the $39.95 without much hassle.
If you pay $49.95, you probably will not get your $10 back, but you should
get a key to the new version. Michigan law (the location of TechSmith)
permits consumers to get a refund of overcharge for mis-priced merchandise,
but I don't know if this law extends to online sales. If TechSmith gives
you a hassle about the price, then you can contact the Michigan Attorney
General's office. That may be a bit much for $10, but it is a convenient
online form.
