Sylvia,

I second Char's recommendation to keep Template Dude away from your AIT
Word template, and agree with her comment that you will likely need to
need to customize the AIT template to some degree. We made a few changes
to our copy of the Word template early on, and tweak it once, maybe twice,
per year.

After you install AIT, I recommend creating a backup of the default Word
template that ships with AIT, and storing it in a VERY safe location (your
call whether to inform Template Dude about the backup and its location).

My current practice is not to make changes directly to our production
library. I have an alternate library, with it's own copy of the Word
template, where I implement and test any changes before rolling them out
to our production library. They've changed the licensing in the most
recent version of AIT, so you may not be able to follow that practice.

Hope this helps.

Here's the good news. Author-it doesn't care what the style
definitions are or what they're called, just that they've been used.
When it comes time to import the content, all styles used in the doc
will be listed, and then you map them to the AIT styles in the
library.

Here's some more good news. AIT comes with a bunch of styles that are
already mapped to the output Word template. And while you might want
to create some new styles, you shouldn't need that many.

Here's even better good news. You can give Template Dude user rights
only to the library so that he can't create new styles. Note: Make
sure that permissions are set correctly so that he can't actually
create styles or modify the Word mapping properties.

Here's the bad news. While AIT includes a default Word template for
publishing, it will probably need to be customized. Personally, I'd
suggest not letting Template Dude anywhere near it.
