I'd say your chances for success in this situation will be highly dependent
upon the quality of your product planning. Is somebody looking at all the
possible functions your modular product is capable of performing,
identifying the ones that your biggest customers will be most interested
in and directing both the "code monkeys" and "documentalists" to
concentrate their efforts there, or do the "code monkeys" throw in
every last kitchen sink they can think of and everyone else has to
support everything, with no idea what's going to be the make-or-break
feature that determines whether your product makes millions or about
$59? I think you can figure out which circumstance you can shine in
and which one you might as well start updating your resume in without
much strain.
