My understanding is that "Edited American English" is just a new name for "Standard Written English." The idea among educators, apparently, was that anything that wasn't "Standard Written English" might be construed as "substandard," even though it might be perfectly understandable and vivid, to the detriment of the students involved.

Someone else may have the official story.

Barbara

Hello,
I read the digest and the last one I received contained several mentions of the term "Edited American English" which is new to me. I googled it and got some information but I am still not sure I understand what is meant by the term. Can someone please provide a definition for the term?
