Just because a verb ends in -ing, does not mean that it is a gerund. It's a gerund when it is being used as a noun or part of a noun phrase. (Example: Printing is fraught with the opportuniy for mechanical problems.) Otherwise, it is a present participle (Example: The computer is printing reports.)
My statement is based on vague memories of high school and quick web searches, but it seems to me that a heading like: "Printing Reports" uses the -ing word as a verb, not a noun. I believe that it is the "nouning" of verbs that trips up some tranlators.
I fully agree that any comptetent professional translator should have no problem with -ing forms.
Knowing I'll be corrected,
Jim Shaeffer
