RE: PDF Link to another PDF wouldn't open

Yesterday, I reported a problem with a link within a PDF (reached by a
browser), that opened another PDF for some people and not for others.
Today I'm reporting progress, and I'm belatedly attaching a subject line
to my post... ahem.   :-)

I ran down a bunch of possibilities and dead ends, but I think that I
now have it mostly sorted out.
If you browse to the first document using a browser that is not your
default browser, it probably won't open the embedded link (inside the
first PDF, pointing to the second PDF).
If you have Acrobat Standard or Professional on your system but NOT
Adobe Reader (that was my case), you might not be able to use the
embedded link (but this might further depend on what your default
browser is... I'm not clear if Adobe has its own internal browse
capability or invokes your system's default browser for chores regarding
links to external resources. More testing required.
Firefox seemed to have no problem invoking Acrobat Professional 7, while
IE6 couldn't. But IE6 had no problem once I installed Acrobat Reader 8.
Opera... just wouldn't open the embedded link, even after I installed
Reader 8 AND made Opera my default browser.  There was also no warning
(no color bar or icon or dialog) admitting that there was a problem - it
just gave no reaction at all to clicks on the link (or to [Ctrl]-click
or [Shift]-click or [Alt]-click or...). Imagine Opera sucking at
something that IE6 can do. Maybe I'll update Opera now, but my copy is
not very out-of-date.

As for what several people suggested, there didn't seem to be any issue
with MOTW (I don't think there was one along the trail of links), and
there didn't seem to be any contribution to the issue w.r.t. IE6 versus
IE7.

Anyway, I hope the above helps the next person.
Tell your users to browse with their default browser, tell them to have
Adobe Reader on the system, and tell them that if Opera is their
browser, they'll need to copy'n'paste the embedded link.
Now to take my initial findings to SQA department...
