Problem was solved several days ago and the solution listed. It turns out
that one of my spreadsheets (but not all of them) had Tool=>general=>Ignore
Other Applications checked. This box was unchecked when only Excel was
loaded, and unchecked in most of the spreadsheets that I reviewed. How one
unloaded file could affect the others is beyond me, but it did.

Does the file show up in the list of open windows?

It is possible that the file window is open in Excel, but it is not
on-screen.

Try the Window menu.
