Kevin,

The method that Dan provided for creating lists using fields and autotext
works very well. Once I paused and really thought about what I had to do
to create the lists, I realized that it's really very simple.

When I first found out that I was going to have to do all of my
documentation in Word rather than FrameMaker, I was disappointed to say
the least. But I have come to see the power and versatility of Word, and I
actually (am I really saying this) kind of like it (there, I said it).
Word was designed for simplicity, so the more powerful features are
hidden, but they're there. And the challenge of finding them is kind of
fun.

Thanks again, Dan!

Lynn

Are you using the AutoText method below because you find that Word doesn't
do the list thing satisfactorily via Styles?
Or is it because, while Word _could_ do it with Styles, it makes the task
sufficiently difficult and chancy that you find the AutoText method easier
and more reliable?
Or have you just gotten really good at making Word jump through hoops with
AutoText (hammer) and every challenge now looks like a nail...
er... AutoText candidate? :-)
Word 2003 is roughly equivalent to Word Umpty-twelve in the previous
numbering system isn't it? You'd think they could have gotten styles to
work smoothly and reliably by that point, wouldn't you?
Our company (like so many) has ... um... "paused" at Windows XP and Word
2003, determined to wait until MS squeezes some of the crud out of Vista
and Office 2007. Can anyone offer an opinion whether that day is nearing?
