Oops. But I think the original idea about "negotiations" already being open still stands. The difference in this case is that you
already missed one opportunity to ask about non-cash sweeteners when you were told the range. The next opportunity now will be
when/if the actual offer comes in.
You are correct that being "overly insistent" on any of the things you've considered could result in a retraction, depending on the
company. If your gut feeling is that this is a high probability, just ask casually if there is any possibilty of using non-salary
options for improving the offer, and if they say no just shrug it off, say "okay," and evaluate the offer based on what it is.
