I second Peter's recommendation. Familiarity with UNIX and TCP/IP
networking are skills that help any tech writer, even if they think
it's scary and bad. Actually, its greater logicality than machines
which hide function behind interface (Macintosh, to a lesser degree,
Windows) may make you like these little machines more.
