If your're not working with equipment or systems that have the
potential to injure, maim or kill their users, I'd be willing to bet
you've probably never met a "usability professional," with the
possible exception of the ergo people your company sends
around to see if your workstation is likely to give you carpal
tunnel.

In product development, HF is a flavor of engineering. An
HF engineer probably has about the same chances of being
an effective document carver as any other engineer. And
I often have doubts about the ability of "academicians" to tell
me why anything in the real world really does what it does.
