How do you define "usability expert"?
***********
I admit that my definition might be loose. In this case, I define
"usability expert" as anybody who gives any hoot about usability and
makes any effort to make documentation usable.
As opposed to the resident management who have lived for 30 years with
"shelfware" and resent/resist any efforts to update their old system.
In 'way too many companies, the resident and only usability expert is
the tech writer.
When we succeed in educating managers about the business benefits of
usable documentation, we will succeed in achieving the career growth and
respect we keep saying we want and need for the profession.
Just as format and content must complement each other, so must
usability.
