Every time I try to do a home improvement project
I end up bleeding. From my point of view that's at
least as unfortunate as someone failing to pay
attention to the notations in a dictionary, but it is
no more the fault of the companies that make
hammers than the misuse of a dictionary is the
fault of those who publish it.

Unfortunately, most dictionary users react to descriptive
dictionaries as if they were prescriptive. If they find a
word in the dictionary, then it must be OK to use it.
Never mind that it's described as "non-standard" or
"informal" or "slang" or "improper". If it's there, it's OK.
