One other source for checking on prices of laptops is dealnews.com.
This site aggregates the best prices on a number of items, including PCs
and related equipment, they can find for the day. Every day, they list
new things and you can sign up for their mailing, which puts it all
together so you can peruse it without checking the site, unless you
really want to. They include household items, as well.
And congratulations to Al for his showing win! Good job, Al!

Subject: RE: OT-Need Wireless Laptop?
I don't think it's OT either as I just bought a new wireless laptop as a
result of my seven-year old inadequate one couldn't do the job anymore
(512M
RAM max is no good for reviewing CAD drawings). I am also now a tech
pubs
manager in addition to tech writer and Help developer. Lauren proposed
Dell.
I have a Gateway (and have used them for over 10 years without any
problems.) There is a plethora of relatively inexpensive laptops out
there;
however, you need to review their specs carefully so you don't paint
yourself into a corner. If you use it for TWing, then you will need
something with a large enough hard drive to hold the programs, a
Ethernet
port in addition to the wireless network (not everyone has wireless),
USB
2.0 port, etc.
OT....but I want to brag...My photograph "Old Town Sante Fe (Pots and
Doors)
won third place in the Main Street Division of the Champlain Valley Fair
Art
Show. Not bad for my first art show.
